I was having a discussion with a friend this morning about the decision by the FFF to sanction Anelka, Evra, Toulalan and Ribery. Anelka got suspended for 18 games (in other words, he won't play for France anymore), Evra got 5 games, Ribery 3 and Toulalan 1.
In my opinion, this is one of the most hypocrite decision of the French football history.
1. Raymond Domenech is still employed by the FFF. He's the main responsible for France's debacle over the past 4 years.
2. Nobody at the FFF, except the President, resigned after this. As a reminder, a national coach in France is not appointed by the President alone. It is done by a council. That council is still there and operating as normal despite being responsible for extending Domenech's contract after the Euro elimination at the first round.
3. I don't understand why people in suits would decide who should play for the French team or not. I always thought this was a decision that had to be made by the coach. The FFF is now preventing Blanc from selecting those players. What if he thinks they should play?
So all in all, I think this is a very hypocrite decision, aimed at finding some scapegoat to divert the attention from the real problem: the instances of French football needs to change. We still have the same people at the helm. The new President has exactly the same profile as the old one. Actually the new one took the old one's job when that one became President a few years ago. They surely took many of the decisions together. No one in the council has left.
Gerard Houiller, one of the biggest hypocrite living on this earth, is now saying that nothing is his fault. This is the same Gerard Houiller who blamed the elimination of France in the qualifying of the World Cup 94 on the players, and mainly Ginola. Amazing track record at going away from any responsibility to preserve his own interests. And this is the same Gerard Houiller who defended Domenech all along. They're all doing the same thing: "no my fault" and point fingers at the players.
Surely, the players shouldn't have done what they've done. I am not excusing them. I just want the problem to be tackled at the source, and the real guilty ones to be sanctioned or sanction themselves (that's called honor). I also don't think a "ban" is the right sanction neither for the players, nor the French national team (we could have force them to spend time with kids to convey the values of sport or things like this).
