France, World Cup winners in 1998 and finalists in 2006, were not included when the top eight seeds for Friday's draw for the 2010 World Cup finals were announced on Wednesday. The eight seeds are hosts South Africa, holders Italy, Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Netherlands and Spain.

That's actually not surprising, and the approach FIFA used to pick the top seeds penalized not only France but also Portugal. Considering the level of the French team in the past Euro, and the World Cup qualifyings, there isn't really a debate here. And I actually don't think all the discussions over the game against Ireland played any role here.
